RoadWise Council

The Shire of Katanning became a RoadWise Council through completion of a declaration of commitment to road safety in August 2023, accepting an invitation from WALGA’s RoadWise to register in the new initiative.

WALGA’s RoadWise aims at improving road safety through a holistic approach by engaging and support Local Government in adopting and applying policies and practices that make an effective and sustainable contribution to the achievements of national and state road safety objectives and targets. There are 75 Local Governments registered in Western Australia as a RoadWise Council.

The Shire was awarded a 3 Ribbon RoadWise Council status for the 2024/2025 reporting period, reflecting how holistically the road safety actions, recorded as part of the RoadWise Recognised initiative, is applied across the organisation.

A key element of the RoadWise Council initiative is to capture the contribution RoadWise Councils are making towards road safety. WALGA’s RoadWise developed the RoadWise Framework to assist RoadWise Councils in aligning interventions and actions delivered with best practice road safety within the functional areas and influence of Local Governments.
