The Shire of Katanning is committed to recognising the value of all community organisations and has developed a clear and powerful vision of “Together we are building Katanning’s future”. Each year the Shire of Katanning allocates an amount of funds within the budget to provide financial support to the community.

Community Grants Program (CGP)
Round 1: Applications open 1 October 2022 - 30 November 2022.
Round 2: Applications open 1 February 2023 - 31 March 2023
Late applications will not be accepted.
Each year the Shire of Katanning allocates an amount of funds within the budget to provide financial support to community organisations that meet the objectives of the Community Grants Program (CGP).
The Shire of Katanning is committed to recognising the value of all community organisations and has developed a clear and powerful vision of “Together we are building Katanning’s future”.
There are three CGP categories that are available to community organisations:
- Minor community grant under $5,000 (ex GST)
- Major community grant over $5,000 (ex GST)
- Triennium community grant (Minor and Major available)
The Community Grants Program application period is open each financial year from the beginning of October and closes at the end of November with funding announced following approval by Council in December. A second round of funding may be held at a later date, if further budgeted funds remain available.
If you are applying for venue hire of a Shire owned venue - please write a letter to the CEO with your request first. If this unsuccessful, then apply through the CGP.
Objectives of the CGP
The CGP objectives are to support projects that promote community capacity, improve social participation and inclusion as well as enhance community harmony and social cohesion.
The Shire of Katanning CGP provides for grants assist community groups and Not for Profit organisations with their vital work and programs to:
- promote community capacity, community harmony and social cohesion;
- encourage people and organisations to help themselves;
- ensure fair distribution of activities and services throughout Katanning; and
- encourage resident participation in activities which benefit the community.

Please note the funds will be paid to the group after the event/purchase has been made. The group needs to pay all relevant costs. The group then needs to send an invoice addressed to the Shire of Katanning along with the receipts and acquittal.

Quick Response Grants Program (Up to $1,000)
The Quick Response Grants Program (QRGP) provides quick response funding support for amounts over $500 and up to $1000 each, to enable Katanning community-based organisations to develop projects that increase participation and benefit the community. Applications can be made at any time. Applicants are permitted to only apply successfully for one Quick Response Grant per financial year.
The Quick Response Grants Program is allocated from within Council’s CEO Donations budget each year with applications for funding approved by the CEO following recommendation by the Community Financial Assistance Committee. The program will support projects that take place within the current financial year.
Objectives of the QRGP
The Quick Response Grants Program objectives are to support small projects in a timely manner, that promote community capacity, improve social participation and inclusion as well as enhance community harmony and social cohesion.
The Shire of Katanning QRGP provides for grants assist community groups and Not for Profit organisations with their vital work and programs to:
- promote community capacity, community harmony and social cohesion;
- encourage people and organisations to help themselves;
- ensure fair distribution of activities and services throughout Katanning; and
- encourage resident participation in activities which benefit the community.

CEO Donations Requests (Up to $500)
Council is committed to providing support to local community organisations for events, activities and infrastructure, by both in-kind and financial support.
The CEO can approve community group donations up to the value of $500 and the use of Shire meeting facilities.

The Department of Local Government has developed an online grants directory to help communities and local governments in regional and metropolitan Western Australia in locating sources of financial assistance for their projects and initiatives.
The Directory provides information on a wide range of grants available to communities and local governments through the State Government and selected Commonwealth Government agencies, as well as a number of private sector organisations.
