Shire President Cr Kristy D’Aprile said “this project is the culmination of years of planning, determination and strategic investment by Council and its partners.
"Quartermaine Oval is more than just a sports ground — it's a central part of life in Katanning," said Cr D’Aprile. "This $2.2 million transformation ensures that our community has access to a safe, high-quality facility that supports liveability, sustainability, and sporting excellence for generations to come."
Originally built in 1990 through predominantly volunteer labour the original oval has served Katanning for over 30 years. However, Cr D’Aprile said, “aging infrastructure and persistent subsoil drainage issues, caused by the region’s notorious clay, signalled that it was time for significant renewal.
“Recognising the oval’s importance, the Shire of Katanning prioritised the refurbishment as a key strategic objective. Delivering the project was made possible thanks to significant contributions from funding partners including the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (through the Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund), the Western Australian Football League, Cricket Australia, and the Shire of Katanning.
“We are incredibly grateful to our funding partners, who helped turn this community vision into a reality,” said Cr D’Aprile. “This project is proof of what can be achieved when we plan carefully, work collaboratively, and invest in our town’s future.”
Cr D’Aprile also acknowledged the hard work of Shire staff who successfully delivered the project on time and under budget.
