Gowrie WA appointed to operate Katanning's new Early Childhood Hub childcare centre

The Shire of Katanning is pleased to announce that Gowrie WA Inc. has been selected as Council's preferred provider to lease and operate the new childcare facility at the Katanning Early Childhood Hub, marking a major milestone for this community project. This appointment is currently subject to Ministerial approval and lease execution.

Gowrie WA is an established not-for-profit organisation with more than 85 years of experience across early learning, outside school hours care and family and community services.

Their selection followed a comprehensive EOI process that attracted six submissions from experienced childcare providers.  Applications were assessed against criteria that included organisational capability & experience, financial capacity, workforce planning and the ability to meet the current and future needs of Katanning families.  The assessment also included independent evaluation by experienced childcare sector representatives and detailed Council consideration.

“From the beginning, our vision has been about more than just creating additional childcare places. We want a welcoming, inclusive service that also supports families and responds to changing community needs, including long day care, before & after school care, vacation care and broader family support.

“The Shire acknowledges the strong community interest in the appointment of Gowrie WA and we thank those who contributed during public consultation.  Council also recognises this decision has raised concerns for some community members, particularly those who have strong relationships with existing childcare providers.  I want to acknowledge the valuable contribution that our existing childcare providers make to Katanning families. This decision does not diminish that contribution.

“However, there will be a transition from the service currently provided by Uplyft, from the Council’s aged property at 84 Conroy St and the commencement of Gowrie’s service from the new childcare Hub.  This transition means there will only be two operating childcare providers in Katanning.

“The decision to lease the Hub property to Gowrie WA is about ensuring the new community facility achieves its broader purpose, complements existing services and enhances childcare and family support. It is an investment in our children, our families and Katanning’s future and we look forward to working with Gowrie WA and the ongoing service provided by Bright Start Childcare Centre at their Hassell St premises, to bring this vision to life,” Cr D’Aprile concluded.
