The Shire of Katanning and Katanning Regional Emergency Accommodation Centre (KREAC), in collaboration with Katanning Police are proud to announce Paul Litherland, founder of Surf Online Safe and 2022 WA Australian of the Year, will be visiting Katanning on 13 June 2023, to conduct a Cyber Safety presentation to students, teachers and parents. Paul will also be speaking about the risks of the internet and how students can protect themselves online. Paul is considered nationally as one of Australia’s leading educators in the field of Internet Awareness and we are proud to have been able to have him visit Katanning during his Great Southern regional tour.

The presentation to Parents and Teachers will be held on 13 June 2023 at the Katanning Town Hall situated at 22 Austral Terrace, Katanning WA 6317 as follows;

Time: 6:00 to 7:30pm – 1.5 hours (including Questions & Answers) presentation to Parents (Teachers) about subjects such as;

 Frontline Knowledge – My experiences, insight and knowledge working at the coalface of juvenile internet use for the past 13 years.

  • Digital Citizenship – Where our kids are going online, the Apps they are using and the information they are sharing.
  • Online Footprint – How easy it is to find kids online and what they can do to minimise their risk.
  • Social Networking & Networking in general – How the systems work and how to overcome their reach.
  • Online Gaming and Website Use  - Risks and uses.
  • Sexting and Sextortion – Trends, risks and up to date stats in regard to this issue.
  • Tips & Tricks – How to keep an eye on your kids through software and hardware. Easy instructions on what we can do to keep them safe.
  • And of course, anything else they wish to discuss.

 As a former Western Australian Police Officer, Paul can offer some great knowledge and experience to help parents better understand the risks children are being exposed to in the online world. Paul will outline key points surrounding the online behaviours of school aged children and offer some good insight into where they are going online and the risks they are taking. All who have attended one of Paul’s presentations have been impressed at how much they learn and amazed at how engaging he is as a speaker.
