Katanning Council to Reduce Number of Elected Members

Following a decision at the October 2020 Council Meeting, the Shire of Katanning Council submitted a proposal to the Local Government Advisory Board to reduce the number of elected members from the current 9 to 7.

The proposal was considered by the Advisory Board in late 2020 with Ministerial approval for the change granted in January 2021.

Shire President Cr Liz Guidera said that she fully supported the change.  “With the requirement for Councillors to undertake mandatory training and increasing demands for time and commitment to the role, Council felt it would become increasingly difficult to attract community members to the role.”

The reduction in numbers from 9 to 7 will be implemented at the ordinary local government elections being held in October 2021.
