There has been as review into the Fire Weather District boundaries as part of the changes to the Fire Danger Rating system.

In the past the Shire of Katanning has sat under the banner of the Beaufort Fire Weather District. Under the review, as of Thursday 1 September 2022, the Shire of Katanning will sit under Stirling North which includes the Shires of Broomehill-Tambellup and Gnowangerup. Under the new changes Stirling North will give Katanning a better fire weather forecast.
