PUBLIC Silo Trail

In November 2017 the PUBLIC Silo Trail stopped off in Katanning and as Katanning doesn't have any silos they decided to light up a series of Western Power electrical transformer boxes and walls in the town centre with murals by prominent Western Australian artists. From the 2nd to the 7th of November street artists Brenton See, Chris NixonDarren Hutchens and Mel McVee created a series of murals throughout town.

The artists were joined by visiting international light calligrapher Karim Jabbari, who facilitated engagement workshops aimed at connecting youth with creativity for social good. The launch of PUBLIC in Katanning also featured The Core, a photographic exhibition by Karim Jabbari inspired by the Great Southern which was held on Thursday, 2nd of November at the Katanning Public Art Gallery.

PUBLIC in Katanning is a partnership between FORM and Western Power designed to enhance cultural tourism in regional Western Australia and give back to the towns in which the company operates.

The trail aims to enhance cultural tourism in regional Western Australia, build the reputation of participating towns, and encourage opportunities for economic growth.

It highlights the contribution CBH Group, FORM's other major partner, and Western Power make to the lives of Western Australians in providing fundamental resources.

As part of this trail, story gathering and social documentary project Homegrown Stories will offer a new way of knowing the life and stories of the people behind the state's agriculture, rail and electrical networks. The project will develop alongside the PUBLIC Silo Trail over the next 12 months, gathering stories in each of the towns in which the trail unfolds ahead of a showcase and launch in 2018.
