Local Laws

The Local Government Act 1995 empowers local governments to make any local laws they considered necessary for good governance and to perform their functions, as long as they do not conflict with either State or Federal laws.

Public comment must be considered before the proposed laws are accepted.

The maximum penalty that a local law can impose is A$5,000.

The Shire of Katanning local laws provide the rules and guidelines to allow the Shire to provide good amenities for residents.
