Youth 'In the Mix' Newsletter September 2009
Welcome from the Youth Development Officer
Hello! Welcome to the Shire of Katanning youth section. I’m Juaini (pronounced as ‘Jew-ay-knee’) your local Youth Development Officer. My job is to design and deliver youth programs for our local youth in Katanning. I have been living in Katanning for 6 years and originally from Bunbury. I really like it here in Katanning because the people are friendly, we don’t have traffic jams, don’t get parking tickets and we have everything we need in our small town.
I hope you will keep checking this section as I will try my best to update it each month. I believe Youth development is very important for small country towns, as the youth are our future and we don’t have a lot of entertainment for our youth like: ten pin bowling, time zone, adventure world, go karting etc. However we do have the best ‘all ages playground’ and weekly youth programs.
The Shire of Katanning depends on local youth and parents to voice out their ideas on what activities we should be running at the Leisure Centre or during the school holidays. We try our best to cater for different interest and we will try our best to run your ideas, however we also depend on volunteers to help promote and coordinate our programs and of course parents to encourage their children to attend so that we can ensure the program is a success and continues.
If you would like to contribute any ideas please contact me on 98219 999 or email: youth2@katanning.wa.gov.au

Making Movies Roadshow
Are you interested in film making? Don’t have the proper equipment to put together a short film?
Katanning has been successful in securing a spot for the Making Movies Roadshow workshop. Only 8 towns are chosen and over 20 towns expressed an interest!
The MMR program will be run by professional film makers. Participants will gain skills in camera, sound, editing skills and they will have the opportunity to create three short films including: dramas, documentaries, music clips or animations. The films are also screened to metropolitan audiences and many are broadcast nationally on the NITV network.
All short films will be screened at an outdoor screening for the community on the final day of the workshop. Screening will be free and held at the Leisure Centre.
The target group is young people aged from 12-25 years old. The Shire of Katanning Youth Theatre group have expressed a huge interest in the MMR project and therefore we can expect a large number of youth to participate in the program this year. However participant numbers are limited to 20, therefore anyone interested in participating should contact Juaini Taylor to register their place: 98219 999 or email youth2@katanning.wa.gov.au
