Welcome from the Community Youth & Development Coordinator
Hello! Welcome to the Shire of Katanning youth section. I’m Abbey your local Youth Development Officer. My job is to design and deliver youth programs for our local youth in Katanning. I have been living in Katanning for 19 years of my life and attended Katanning Senior High School.
I hope you will keep checking this section as I will try my best to update it each month. I believe Youth development is very important for small country towns, as the youth are our future and we don’t have a lot of entertainment for our youth like: ten pin bowling, time zone, adventure world, go karting etc. However we do have the best ‘all ages playground’ and weekly youth programs.
The Shire of Katanning depends on local youth and parents to voice out their ideas on what activities we should be running at the Leisure Centre or during the school holidays. We try our best to cater for different interest and we will try our best to run your ideas, however we also depend on volunteers to help promote and coordinate our programs and of course parents to encourage their children to attend so that we can ensure the program is a success and continues.
If you would like to contribute any ideas please contact me on 98219 999 or email: cydc@katanning.wa.gov.au

Regular Youth Activities:
Rollerblading
Rollerblading nights are a lot of fun for everyone, and there are plenty of games and some prizes to be won at the Katanning Leisure Centre.
To keep it safe and fun, please find the details and rules for Rollerblading below.
Times: Fridays from 6:30-8:30pm
Costs:
- Entry: $3.50 for child non-member, $4.50 adult (18+) non-member, Free for Gold Members
- Blade Hire: $2.00 (IE: $5.50 for non-members blading, $2 for gold members blading, $3.50 for non-members playing sport, or bringing their own blades)
- Supervisors of Children under 12: No Charge (Blade hire ($2) will apply if supervisor is blading)
Basic Rules:
1. Respect all other patrons and staff members.
2. Patrons must fill out a Code of Conduct agreement and supply a parent’s name and phone number prior to entry to the program.
3. All children aged 12 and under will only be granted access to the Centre if accompanied by a guardian aged 18 or older who remains in the building with the child for the entire evening. There is no charge to supervise, but we will charge supervisors for rollerblade hire if they wish to blade.
4. The program runs from 6:30-8:30pm on Fridays. There will be no “Pass Outs” and children who leave the facility and wish to return will be charged an additional entry fee (they will have to pay twice).
5. For hygiene’s sake, please wear socks in your rollerblades.
6. Exchange shoes for blades, return a matching pair of blades to get your shoes back. No shoes, no blades! No blades, no shoes!
7. Rollerblades must remain on the main stadium floor at all times. No blades are to be worn on the stairs, carpets or ramp.
8. Balls will be made available at the discretion of supervising staff. Balls are to be thrown into hoops only, and not at other patrons.
9. All other Leisure Centre rules as laid out in the KLC Code of Conduct also apply at all times.
To ensure the safety of all and the ongoing success of Rollerblading, rule enforcement will be strict and simple:
- 1st infringement of the rules = blades removed for remainder of the evening.
- 2nd infringement of the rules = a call to parents and being sent home.
- Facility bans will also be enforced for Code of Conduct infringements.
Click on the link below for a copy of the behavioural standard. If your child is coming to blading, it would be great if you could bring the completed form to speed up entry.
Please remember that Katanning Leisure Centre staff are NOT responsible for people when they leave the premises.
VOLUNTEERS ARE ALWAYS APPRECIATED.
IF YOU WISH TO ASSIST WITH THE SUPERVISION AT ROLLERBLADING ON A FRIDAY EVENING PLEASE SEE THE STAFF AT THE SERVICE DESK.
