The Katanning Tourist Bureau is housed in the Old Mill building. The Bureau is staffed by volunteers and is open 10.00 - 4.00 weekdays and 10.00 am - 12.00 noon on Saturday mornings. Visitors can talk to the friendly staff, find out about the town and sights of interest and check out the roller flour mill museum.

The roller flour mill was one of the first industries in Katanning and has a special place in the town's history. The mill was built by the Piesse family in late 1800's and continued to operate up until 1977. Much of the milling equipment is still on site.

 

The Tourist Bureau is also the local Westrail ticket selling agent.

Sheep Saleyards

Dore Street

Council operates one of the largest sheep selling complexes in the State. Sales are held every Wednesday and at other times by special arrangement. There is a viewing platform for interested visitors. The facility is located in the industrial area and can be accessed via Daping Street or Dore Street.

All Ages Playground

The All Ages Playground is a great place to stop and enjoy the variety of play equipment designed for everyone from children to teenagers and adults. The scenic grounds of the park also include a tourist information board, public toilets and a free BBQ.

Katanning Miniature Railway

The miniature railway is a scenic tourist attraction situated next to the All Ages Playground. The railway is operated by a group of local enthusiasts, who also built and maintain the tracks and station building. Suitable for children and adults the trains run on the second and fourth Sunday of each month. There is a small charge per ride and passengers must be wearing covered shoes.

Skatepark/Lions Park

Clive Street

Built in 2000 by the Shire of Katanning, the skatepark is a popular gathering spot for local youth. The adjoining 'Lions Park' has been developed by the Katanning Lions Club and provides a picnic area and public toilet facilities. The two parks are located on Clive Street near the All Ages Playground.

"Heart" Park

This is an eyecatching entry statement to town located directly opposite the All Ages Playground. The heart shaped enclosure represents Katanning's status as the 'heart of the great southern region'. The area was landscaped by the Katanning Townscape Committee and features an agricultural display of windmill, truck, sculptured sheep and pioneer chimney ruin. 

Historical Museum

Taylor Street

This building was originally Katanning's first government school, which opened in 1896. It now houses an abundance of historical material.
Open Sunday 2 - 4pm or by appointment.

Katanning Recreation & Leisure Centre

Pemble Street

The Recreation and Leisure Centre is a premium facility which includes netball/basketball courts, gymnasium and function room. The Centre is surrounded by high quality sporting ovals for football, cricket, hockey and equestrian events. Officially opened in 1997, significant funding for its construction was raised by the community.

The Pioneer Room is a popular choice for business or social functions. Please contact our friendly Centre staff to find out more about hiring this facility.

Kobeelya

Kobeelya Avenue

This historic building stands at the end of the main street of Katanning. Originally home of one of founders of Katanning, Frederick Piesse, it has since been used as a unique private boarding school for girls, which offered equestrian facilities for boarders. Kobeelya is currently owned by the Baptist Church and used for church services and as a function centre.

Library/Gallery

Austral Terrace

Officially opened in December 1999, this building includes a modern library facility together with a B class art gallery. The gallery regularly hosts visiting exhibitions as well as displaying the Shire’s own art collection. The biennial art prize competition is extremely popular and attracts interest from throughout Western Australia and interstate.

Katanning Mosque

Andrews Road

Katanning has a large Muslim population, many of whom originally came from the Christmas and Cocos Islands. The Mosque is located on Andrews Road near the old winery.

Piesse Statue

Austral Terrace near the Albion Street intersection

The Piesse statue commemorates Frederick Piesse, one of the founders of the town.

Police Pools           

This area was the original campsite for the district’s first police officers. It has undergone some landcare conservation work and the picnic area has been upgraded.

Heritage Park

Austral Terrace

Located opposite the Town Hall and Shire Offices, this picturesque park was developed by the Katanning Townscape Committee, with input from local groups and members of the community. The gardens incorporate a number of features including the pre-existing Pioneer Women's Clock, a pioneer memorial wall, heritage rose garden, Noongar Time Walk, Beeck Family rotunda, agricultural pioneer seats and tables, migrant community sculpture, Malay mosaic and gardens featuring plants from the turn of century. Public toilets are located in the Town Hall complex across the road from park.

Farmers Markets

Katanning Recreation & Leisure Centre Car Park, Pemble Street

These popular markets are held on the third Saturday of each month. Stalls sell a variety of produce, arts, crafts, food etc.
