The Katanning Gallery is the only 'B' class gallery in the Great Southern Region. A number of touring exhibitions visit throughout the year, interspersed with local exhibitions and a changing display of the Shire's own art collection. Three 'Art on the Move' touring exhibitions are hosted each year. Many of these offer a sponsored educational package which encourages all schools in the region to participate.

The Gallery is managed by the Shire.

Upcoming Exhibitions

The Works of Melva Crouch

Exhibition Opens on the  17th June 2011 at 6pm.

Melva Crouch (nee Brinkworth)

Melava was born in Quorn South Australia. Her family moved to sawyers Valley, WA and later to Cottesloe, where their neighbour was Claude Hotchkin who, as many of us remember, was very encouraging to the Katanning Community when the Gallery we know today was built. Melva trained as a Primary School Teacher and was posted to Katanning where she met A.T. Crouch. They married in 1922. Melva retired from teaching to concentrate on family and community life bringing up two children Betty and Edwin. Melva and her family were held in high regard in the district. She was a very active member of the Parish of St Andrews Church of England. She became the first women to be appointed as a Justice of the Peace in the Great
Southern and was later appointed Magistrate to the Children's court. Melva was a talented artist and although she lived a busy life she made time not only for her own painting, but also to teach others both locally and at Carrolup School.

Don't miss this fantastic exhibition of Local Historical significance.

Exhibition Closes on the 28th June 2011

The Katanning Art Prize -

Opening on the 2nd September 2011

The Katanning Art Prize is one of the major art prize competitions in rural Western Australia and receives entries from all over the state. The competition first commenced in 1979 to add to a collection that started with the generous donation of 24 paintings by Claude Hotchin in 1951.

The Art Prize is run every second year with leading art judges assessing entries in a variety of categories.

Art Prize Sponsorship

The Katanning Art Committee is seeking sponsors to support the 2011 Katanning Art Prize, with the prestigious opportunity available for naming rights sponsorship. As the Katanning Art Prize is publicised statewide, naming rights sponsorship will give your business statewide exposure. Local support for the arts is vital to continue the long standing biannual Katanning Art Prize.

For more information and a copy of the sponsorship proposal please contact Katanning Art Gallery or click on the link below.
